Reyee RG-E5: A Comprehensive Test Experience
To assess the Reyee RG-E5’s Wi-Fi coverage, I conducted a series of tests using an iPhone 12, which has a maximum speed of 110 Mbps (155Mbps Theoretical) on the 2.4 GHz band and 710 Mbps (899Mbps Theoretical) on the 5 GHz band. The tests were conducted in various locations throughout my home, including near the router, in the kitchen, bedroom, yard, and upstairs.
Methodology:
- Near the router:Â This was just a few feet away from the router.
- Kitchen:Â This was about 30 feet from the router, through a wall and a door.
- Bedroom:Â This was about 50 feet from the router, through two walls and a door.
- Yard:Â This was about 100 feet from the router, outdoors.
- Upstairs:Â This was about 75 feet from the router, upstairs.
Near the Router
In close proximity to the router (15 feet), I consistently achieved speeds of over 105Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and over 610Mbps on the 5 GHz band. This is impressive performance for such an affordable router. The RSSI values for both bands were around -43, indicating a strong signal. I was able to stream 4K video, download large files, and play online games without any lag.
Kitchen
Moving further to the kitchen, approximately 30 feet away from the router, I was still able to maintain speeds of over 80Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and over 430Mbps on the 5 GHz band. The RSSI values for both bands remained strong, hovering around -51 for 2.4GHz band and -55 for 5GHz band. I was able to continue streaming 4K video and downloading large files without any significant slowdown.
Bedroom
Next, I moved the iPhone to my bedroom, which is approximately 50 feet away from the Reyee RG E5. In this location, I saw a further decrease in speeds, but I was still able to get speeds of over 50Mbps on 2.4GHz band and 260Mbps on 5GHz band. The RSSI values was around -56 for 2.4GHz and -65 for 5GHz, both indicating a good signal and I was able to continue streaming HD video and browsing the web without any major issues.
Upstairs
Then, I tested the router’s coverage upstairs, which is approximately 75 feet away from the router. In this location, I was surprised to find that I could still get speeds of around 35Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and around 220Mbps on the 5 GHz band. The RSSI value was around -60 for 2.4GHz band and -64 for 5GHz band, indicating a medium signal. I was able to stream SD video and browse the web without any major issues.
Yard
I then finally tested the router’s coverage outside in my yard, which is approximately 100 feet away from the Reyee AX3200. I experienced a more significant drop in speeds, but I was still able to get speeds of around 20Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and around 65Mbps on the 5 GHz band. The RSSI value was around -61 for 2.4GHz band and -67 for 5GHz band, indicating a weak signal. I was able to stream SD video and browse the web without any major issues.
