NETGEAR Orbi Whole Home Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System (RBK853)

The Answer to a Big Concern, Multi-Router WiFi Networks..!

It can be said that the issue of broad and integrated coverage is the biggest concern in WiFi networks. Usually, the more a WiFi network expands, the more noticeably  the quality and speed of the connections decreases.

Different companies have provided different solutions and categories of products to address this problem. They have tried to customize the Mesh Technology (as the basic technology) in order to provide a better and more integrated service than the competitors.

NETGEAR company has introduced a product category called “Orbi”, which utilizes Mesh technology to create an integrated network consisting of multiple routers. Where the quality of service is such that users think that the entire network is covered by using a router.

Technically, the system consist of a central router (Main Router) and several extenders . The main router is connected to the Internet (modem) using a network cable and the extenders (satellites) are wirelessly connected to the main router.

One of the advantages of this solution is its flexibleness. This means that the number of extenders can be changed according to your needs. The more extenders you get, the more range you will have covered. Read the NETGEAR Orbi Whole Home Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 review for more technical information:

How many extenders do you need?

NETGEAR Orbi consists of one central router and several extender routers. The main(central) router connects to the Internet (modem) using a network cable and the extenders (satellites) connect wirelessly to the main router.

  • 5000 Square Feet: using a main router and an expansion router (2pack)
  • 7500 Square Feet: using one main router and two extender routers (3pack)
  • 10,000 Square Feet: using one main router and three extender routers (4pack)
  • 12500 Square Feet: using one main router and four extender routers (5pack)

How Does The Mesh System Work?

NETGEAR Orbi works based on mesh technology. All routers are wirelessly connected to each other to create several different paths from the user’s location to the central router. As a simple example, we have a network with 3 extenders and a central router:

There may be 2 paths for user communication with the central router. The system intelligently chooses a route that has less traffic load and more bandwidth. Keep in mind that by adding or removing any extender router, the communication paths will change.

Number of simultaneous users :

Since each extender has dedicated hardware resources, the number of concurrent users in the entire network is high.

We know that eventually all users connect to the Internet through the main router, but you should know that most of user request processing is done on the Extender’s Processor, which greatly reduces the workload of the main router.

Parental control

NETGEAR Orbi has one of the most useful management systems for parents. The NETGEAR Smart Parental Control System allows you to monitor and limit your children’s online activities. You can restrict access to adult content and harmful websites too.

One of the most interesting features of this system is the ability to Pause the kid’s internet connection, at times such as dinner time or study time. To learn how to set up this system, refer to the setup tab.

Incredible Security :

Netgear has designed the Armor security system in collaboration with Bitdefender security company, to create a very high level of security for all equipment in the network.

To benefit from this system, you do not need to install any application on the network clients and devices. Only using a netgear router equipped with Armor security system can protect all the network devices including: Computers, Mobile phones, IOT equipment, CCTV cameras, Game consoles, etc. from any kind of danger.

NETGEAR Orbi WiFi 6 Speed and Bands:

Support for the WiFi 6 (802.11ax) standard has given this device very favorable capabilities, in this standard the coverage and speed of communication has increased dramatically due to the presence of valuable technologies such as MU-MIMO, Beamforming, as well as support for communication channels with a width of 160Mhz.

The overall speed of this device is up to 6000Mbps, which is serviced in 3 separate frequency bands, one of 5Ghz bands is dedicated for communication between Extenders , the other 5Ghz band is used to serve high-speed devices such as Game Consoles, and the 2.4Ghz band is used to communicate clients for routine tasks such as web surfing and checking emails.

Conclusion:

We had various tests on these routers . Which includes Mesh network test, overall speed testing, parental control options test, and security tests. In the end, we gave the router a score of 9 out of 10, which is a very high score for a wifi router. By purchasing this router, you will have a very high level WiFi network and you will have no any limitation.
